2021 Trustee Election Confirmed Candidates

Nominations for the 2021 Trustee election for LineTrust South Canterbury closed at midday on Friday 20 August 2021. The following nominations were received:

Mackenzie District Council area (one vacancy)

As this was the only nomination received for this area, Joy PATERSON is declared the elected Trustee for the Mackenzie District Council area.

Waimate District Council area (one vacancy)

As this was the only nomination received for this area, Mike DOWNES is declared the elected Trustee for the Waimate District Council area.

Timaru District Council area (three vacancies)

As these were the only nominations received for this area, Peter BINNS, Karen McCROSTIE and Hugh PERRY are declared the elected Trustees for the Timaru District Council area.

The Trustees Role

Five persons elected from the community operate the Trust. Elections are held every three years. Every LineTrust SC beneficiary can vote or run for election themself.
The Trustees, acting on behalf of the beneficiaries, and in accordance with the Trust Deed, are responsible for ensuring that the Trust operates according to its key roles and all its regulatory and legal requirements. In practice, the Trustees:
  • Set and distribute the dividend to the Trust’s beneficiaries.
  • Propose and with other shareholders, appoint Alpine Energy’s board of directors. There are currently five members on the board.
  • Approve all major transactions undertaken by Alpine Energy.
  • Manage the Trust’s funds.
  • Communicate with beneficiaries and the general public on the Trust’s activities.
  • Monitor and address regulatory issues affecting Alpine Energy’s, the Trust and beneficiaries.
  • Get involved in energy matters in the interests of Alpine Energy’s, our consumers and beneficiaries.
  • Take a proactive role in ensuring security of supply for our customers.
  • Monitor prices of Alpine Energy’s Electricity services in the Trust district and ensure these do not exceed the agreed pricing policy.
